Academic Visitor, Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford Professor of Clinical Psychology, University of Miyazaki, Japan
My work is focused on improving the understanding and treatment of school non-attendance and prolonged social isolation (hikikomori). I have led the development of Community-Wide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CWCBT), a framework integrating digital tools and multi-agency collaboration. A particular focus is the application of Internet-delivered Cognitive Therapy (iCT) for hikikomori with social anxiety, and utilizing the OSI framework for preventative family-based interventions.
To do this, I use a range of methods, including digital tool development, clinical trial designs, and interdisciplinary collaboration with public policy. My work aims to advance accessible mental health care and address professional shortages through innovative digital solutions.
