Cognitive and Behavioural Approaches to Mental Health in Young People (CAMY) is a research group based at the University of Oxford, in the Department of Experimental Psychology

We are interested in understanding the cognitive basis of common mental health difficulties and using this understanding to develop and implement effective interventions. A twin focus is on improving our understanding of the persistence of these difficulties in neurodivergent children and young people in order to develop better treatments, with a particular focus on strengths-based approaches.

Specifically, we are interested in examining:

  • Cognitive and behavioural mechanisms of anxiety problems in young people
  • How these vary across development and neurodivergence
  • How these interact with the environment, such as peer and family settings
  • How to harness this knowledge to develop effective and accessible interventions
  • How to implement interventions into services

We use a range of methods, including longitudinal and experimental studies, randomised controlled trials, qualitative studies, and systematic reviews and meta-analyses. You can see our current projects by clicking below:

Our group's work is funded by the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre, and The Paul Foundation.
